The Itsukushima Shrine & Hiroshima Peace Park Memorial
We spent the morning at Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima Island followed by a more somber visit to the Hiroshima Peace Park Memorial.
Imagine climbing this bridge in the traditional Japanese wooden flip flops!

The Peace Clock. The top number shows the number of days since the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima (26,303) and the second number is the number of days since the last nuclear test (336).
Through the cenotaph, which holds the names of everyone who perished from the bomb, you can see the eternal peace flame and the A-bomb Dome.
The Children's Peace Monument.
The A-Bomb Dome, a preserved building that survived the blast which took place almost immediately overhead.
Our new friends at dinner, engineering and education students. They helped guide our menu choices ("we'll have what they're having!").
My sake cup runneth over... We loved these sake cups so much that we travelled clear across the country to buy some!
